We're told this closed off tunnel runs under the centre of Edinburgh - and would be at the same level as the lines at Waverley station.
It was closed to trains in the 1880s because the Firth of Forth railway bridge made this route from the ferry at Newhaven redundant.

What wonderful potential it has for a useful walking and cycling route across the city!
