Existing pelican crossing to be upgraded to a toucan. Chesterton Rd could easily be made a more pleasant environment for walking and cycling. At 11m wide there is space for two 2m cycle lanes and 3.5m traffic lanes. The central refug ... [more]
Signal pole completely blocking the narrow cycle track. This is just one of many reasons for accomodating cycling within the carriageway, not on the pavement. When converted to a toucan this pole needs to be re-positioned to minimise the ... [more]
This narrow marked cycle track, hugging the kerb around the corner between Chesterton Rd and Hawthorn Way is very poor. The recommended clearance to the kerb (1.5m TA 90/05) is greater than the marked width of this cycle track ! In view ... [more]
Link across Chesterton Road between Hawthorn Way and De Freville Rd, leading down to the river. There is pelican crossing here, soon to be upgraded to a toucan, that puts cyclists onto the pavement cycle track on the left. Many peopl ... [more]
Given the width of Chesterton Road (11m), these cycle lanes are unnecessarily narrow. Widen to 2m. The traffic islands also create a series of unnecessary pinch points. Relocate the islands to protect the cycle lane rather than deflec ... [more]
Illegally parked vehicles, kerb buildouts and cycle lanes that don't follow your natural wheel line. Some of the many unnecessary hazards and deterrents that people face every day when they choose to travel by cycle.
Looking west along Newmarket Rd at the site of the existing pelican crossing - to be converted to a toucan. A thoroughly uninviting road environment with narrow footways and cycle lanes, and too much traffic space and railings.
Gonville Place pelican crossing is heavily used by cyclists. At many times of day, more cyclists use it than pedestrians. The split, staggered, two stage arrangement leads to very high levels of crossing against a red light - I counted 9 ... [more]
Cycle link needed through to proposed toucan crossing by removing the shrubs to the right of the tree. The light column beyond also needs to be relocated.
Looking up Newmarket Rd at the pelican crossing that is due to be upgraded to a toucan. A very uninviting environment with narrow footways and cycle lanes, too much traffic space and guard railing.
Narrow cycle lane (0.9m) between two traffic lanes - a real NO-NO. Increase width to 2m. Staggered sheep pen on a (proposed) cycle crossing - another NO-NO. Open up the railings to minimise the stagger before converting to cycle use.
No room to manouvre round this bent pole to get on and off the crossing. Use an offset pole to improve clearance before converting to cycle use.
This isn't really a crossing because there is nowhere to cross to, more of a "T" junction where the stem of the "T" is a traffic free path across Parkers Piece. The left turn ban is a nonsense and is widely ignored, as can be seen (lady ... [more]
This isn't really a crossing because there is nowhere to cross to, more of a "T" junction where the stem of the "T" is a traffic free path across Parkers Piece. The left turn ban is a nonsense and is widely ignored. It should be removed.
Regent St Crossing. At the corner of Parkers Piece. This crossing allows cyclists approaching from the commonto join the road. This is a PARALLEL crossing, not a toucan, with seperate crossings for pedestrians and cyclists side by side. ... [more]
A 4x4 that thinks it is a bicycle. This is an example of a good concept that has been badly executed, to the degree that it is dangerous. The recommended width for a cycle lane is 2.0m. This is a particularly intimidating, dangerous a ... [more]
Looking southNewmarket Rd at the site of the existing pelican crossing - to be converted to a toucan. A cycle path link needs to be created into Abbey St opposite where the tree is. A thoroughly uninviting road environment with narrow ... [more]
This is a cycle link ! It connects Abbey Street on the South Side of Newmarket Rd, to Abbey Road and the Riverside path on the north. It is narrow, confined, and full of obstructions, but a necessary improvement. It could be improv ... [more]
